Ageing Better in Camden is a partnership of older people and agencies in Camden working closely together to tackle the social isolation and loneliness that many older people in the Borough experience.
Camden’s diverse communities are at the heart of the Ageing Better in Camden approach and working in partnership with Henna Asian Women’s Group helped to increase their reach.
Henna’s Art, Freedom and Creativity project allows older women, at risk from or experiencing social isolation, become more involved in their communities, and provide stronger support to each other.
New and old members from a variety of backgrounds experienced less social isolation asa result of participation in Henna’s Art, Freedom and Creativity project. Members engage in their design and delivery of Henna’s Art, Freedom and Creativity project.
Henna ‘s programme includes weekly workshops such as Gardening, Singing, Creative Writing, Painting, Exercise, Cooking, I.T sessions, Crochet, Memory Stitching etc. Alongside taking participants on a variety of outings. The variety of outings include Art galleries, Parks, Theatres, Zoo, British Museum, Sky gardens, Tower of London and many more.
This project is a great success in bringing together communities from all different backgrounds and creating community cohesion.
"Since I lost my husband and all my friends I felt so lonely but Henna gave me a family from all different backgrounds, something I never experianced before" ~~ Henna member
